How do you get a listing video without hiring a videographer?

By Brian Jones, co-founder, engineering and Talyn Jones, co-founder, product, Frameworthy.

Three options: film it on a phone, make a slideshow from the listing photos, or have a walkthrough video generated from those photos. The phone costs an afternoon and looks like a phone. The slideshow is free and looks like a slideshow. The generated walkthrough costs a flat fee and looks like a camera moving through the house.

What does filming it yourself actually take?

A second trip to the property, a gimbal if you want it steady, a walk through every room twice, and an hour in an editing app. The light will not be the photographer's light, and the result sits next to professional stills on the same listing. It works for a Story; it rarely works as the listing video.

What does a slideshow app give you?

Your photos, in order, with a crossfade and a music track. It is free or nearly free and takes ten minutes. It also reads as a slideshow from the first second, because nothing moves except the transition, and buyers scroll past it the way they scroll past a photo carousel.

The template apps that add a zoom to each still are the same thing with a slow push; the image stretches, nothing in the room changes perspective, and the eye knows.

What does a generated walkthrough do differently?

Each photo becomes a short clip in which the camera moves through the room: a push through the doorway, a drift along the island, a pan across the patio. The shots are stitched in the order you choose and delivered in 16:9, 9:16 and 1:1. The input is the photo set you already paid for, so there is no trip and no shoot.

The honest limit is that it shows what the photographer captured and nothing more. It cannot add a sunset or a drone pass. Every clip is checked against its photo so it cannot add a room either, which is the part the MLS cares about.

Which one should an agent pick?

For the listing that will never get a filmed video, the generated walkthrough is the one that puts real motion on the page for $99, the same day the photos go live. For a Story from the open house, the phone is fine. The slideshow is the option you reach for when the other two are not available.

Questions

Does a generated walkthrough replace a videographer?

For the listing that was never going to get one, yes. When the land, the view or dusk light is the story, a filmed shoot with a drone still earns its fee.

What does it cost?

$99 per listing, up to 20 rooms, three cuts, branding included. No subscription.

Do I need new photos?

No. The MLS photos the photographer already delivered are the input. Bright, straight-on shots from the doorway of each room work best.
